Part description

What is a separator filter element?

A separator filter element works in conjunction with a coalescer and ensures that the coalesced droplets from the previous filtration stage (the coalescer element) are separated and prevented from mixing again with the clean liquid or gas. The separator element consists of a water-repellent (hydrophobic) material that repels water droplets but allows air or oil to pass through.

Types of separator elements

Separator filters are commonly used in the oil and gas industry, for example, to separate water from oil. We offer separator elements available for various applications. The filter medium of these elements can be made of hydrophobic, synthetic mesh, or Teflon© coated mesh. Additionally, our SS series is tested and certified according to the 5th edition of EL 1581.

The operation of separator filters

  • After the coalescer step, the liquid with larger droplets arrives at the separator.
  • The hydrophobic material of the separator ensures that water droplets do not pass through but are separated from the flow.

Applications of separator filters

  • Condensates of hydrocarbons, diesel, kerosene, LPG, lubricants, and aromatics.
  • Fuel systems to completely remove water after coalescing.
  • Natural gas treatment, where oil and water must be completely separated from the gas.
  • Industry: chemicals, resins, solvents, hydraulics, oils, and lubricants.
  • Petroleum refinery: hydrocarbon stocks, fuels, crude, condensates, and distillates.
  • Pipelines and petroleum terminals: diesel, gas oil, kerosene, LNG, and LPG.
  • Electricity generation: turbine lubricating oil and hydraulic oil.
  • Pulp and paper: lubricating and hydraulic oils.
  • Electricity transmission: transformer oils.
