Sustainability coach Stefan Romijn from the municipality of Brielle visited us. He was curious about our sustainable building and what else we do around this theme. He wrote a nice article about it ⤵️
Interfilter Group specializes in delivering clean air. They also ensure clean air in their own business operations. Since January 2020, the company has been located in a gas-free building where the necessary electricity is almost entirely generated by solar panels on the roof.
Due to growing turnover, there was a need for more space for storage, production, and office facilities. Therefore, Interfilter Group had a building constructed in the Seggelant industrial estate in Brielle. The building is approximately 4,000 m2 in size.
Improve the world, start with yourself
Durability was an important requirement for the designer. Nick van Sliedregt, co-owner of Interfilter Group, explains: 'A sustainable building saves the environment. The climate changes that are happening affect all of us. With our business building, we want to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. Not only for the sake of our current generation, but also for the sake of our children and grandchildren. With our building, we hope to send a positive message to our customers.'
Gas-free heating
Sustainability is a top priority at Interfilter Group, emphasizes Van Sliedregt. The design aimed for 'zero on the meter'. A building was designed with an EPC (Energy Performance Coefficient) of zero. The lower the EPC value, the more energy-efficient a building. What is unique about the building for Interfilter Group is that not only the office space is well insulated, but also the warehouse. Furthermore, the building is "all electric", so gas-free. There are heat pumps for heating and cooling the building. In addition, there are 450 solar panels on the roof, which provide 80% of the energy needs.
The lighting is also energy efficient. LED lighting is used throughout the building, controlled by motion. 'There is daylight control, which means that the lights turn on automatically when needed. The lights near the window, for example, do not turn on when there is enough natural light, but deeper into the building, where daylight does not enter, they do.'
Good for the employees
A building should not only be good for the environment, but also pleasant to work in. Think of a pleasant indoor climate in terms of heat, light, and acoustics. There are plants throughout the building and a special fitness room has been set up, which is used a lot. Free fruit is available for the employees, to keep everyone fit and healthy.
Sustainable products
Sustainable entrepreneurship goes beyond building an energy-neutral building. Interfilter Group offers innovative energy-efficient air filters. 'This allows us to also enable our customers to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.'
A great example is all the A+ filters that Interfilter Group offers. These filters lead to lower energy consumption and less CO2 emissions. Additionally, because the filters last longer, there is also less waste.
