Filtering fine dust from the air

What is fine dust?

Fine dust, also known as Particulate Matter (PM), is a form of air pollution. Fine dust consists of airborne particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 10 microns (PM10). These particles come from various sources and have different chemical compositions. The composition of fine dust is influenced by the environment and weather conditions.

The dangers of outdoor air pollution

Air quality affects our health, economy, and the environment. Parliament advocates for stricter regulations to combat pollution. As part of the goal of zero pollution, the European Parliament is proposing stricter air quality standards for 2035, with specific targets for particulate matter. You can read more about the dangers of outdoor air pollution and the specific targets to reduce it in the provided document.

Fine dust threatens health

Epidemiological and toxicological studies show that inhaling fine dust is harmful to health. A recent report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) indicates that in Europe, 350,000 people die prematurely each year due to fine dust emissions. Vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and individuals with heart, vascular, or lung diseases, face high health risks from chronic exposure to fine dust. Additionally, it impedes lung development in children.

PM1 fine dust is the most harmful

It is known that health damage primarily occurs when inhaling smaller particles, those smaller than 2.5 microns: PM2.5 and PM1. Particles larger than 10 microns are blocked by nasal hairs and mucus membranes, while particles of 2.5 microns and smaller penetrate the alveoli in the lungs. Damage occurs in the lungs, hindering oxygen absorption. This can lead to shortness of breath and a feeling of tightness.

Fine dust filters protect your health

In mechanical ventilation ducts, you can easily use air filters to purify the air before it enters the building through mechanical ventilation systems. Since many people rely on this air during the day, for example in offices, shops, schools, or healthcare facilities, fine dust filters can alleviate many complaints caused by fine dust. Are you curious about which air filters remove as much fine dust as possible from the air or which fine dust filters perform optimally in your situation?

Contact us for customized advice. We can also perform fine dust measurements and provide you with a comprehensive fine dust report, including recommended air filters that meet the necessary standards.
