Air quality interests at Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel

Dophou from Bodegraven specializes in the installation and maintenance of cooling and air handling systems, among others. For years, they have been responsible for maintenance work at the Sheraton Hotel in Amsterdam. At this 4-star hotel at Schiphol Airport, a healthy indoor climate is high on the agenda. 'In addition to hospitality, we want to offer our guests optimal protection against fine dust and pathogens during their stay in our hotel,' said Cees Moraal, HTD of the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel. But how is the air ventilation actually regulated and how could this be further improved, especially in view of the Corona pandemic?

Air management challenge

Erik van Leeuwen, technical manager at Dophou, together with their regular filter supplier Interfilter, sought answers to this question. Together, they investigated the air quality within the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel, looking for possible improvements in that area. This research revealed that the outdoor air around the hotel contains a high concentration of fine dust PM0.3, PM1.0, and PM2.5. Within the hotel, there is both mechanical supply and recirculation air. Therefore, it is extremely important to apply air filters that meet the WHO recommendations regarding maximum acceptable fine dust concentrations in order to create a healthy environment for all guests and employees of the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel.

Clean and safe air

On the advice of Interfilter and in consultation with Dophou, NWES98 PLUS bag filters were installed in the air handling systems of this Sheraton Hotel. With filter class ISO ePM1-90%, the NWES98 PLUS bag filters more than meet the WHO recommendations. The high filter class also meets the advice of REHVA in case of air recirculation within a building. In addition, the filter medium is also coated with a virucidal coating (citric acid) which inactivates over 99% of any viruses present in the filter. 'The additional costs for these filters were recovered within four months thanks to savings on our energy costs,' said Cees Moraal. An ROI within four months is a great result for the hotel.
