Ventilation high on the agenda

Since February 2022, all theaters in the Netherlands have reopened to the public. This means that cultural center Cascade can reopen its doors for room rental and they can happily resume organizing various cultural activities. As in many buildings, proper ventilation and optimizing the indoor climate are high on the agenda. How is the air exchange arranged, how do we offer our employees and guests optimal protection against (ultra) fine dust, and how do we reduce the risk of spreading pathogens through the ventilation system? A question that Erik Bakker from ZovaTEC also received from Henk Kooiman (Cultureel Centrum Cascade) and Henk Verheij (Municipality of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht).

Air management challenge

Erik Bakker is looking for an answer to this question with his regular partner Interfilter. In collaboration with representative Mats Verbrugge, research has been conducted into the air quality within the Cascade foundation and a possible optimization of the air management. This research revealed an elevated concentration of PM0.3, PM1.0, and PM2.5 fine dust in the outdoor air. Furthermore, there is both mechanical supply air and recirculation air within the cultural center. It is extremely important to use a filter that meets the WHO's requirements for fine dust filtration and air recirculation, in order to create a healthy environment for all visitors and employees of the Cascade.

Clean and safe air

On the advice of Interfilter and in consultation with ZovaTEC and Henk Verheij, Building Management of Public Spaces of the Municipality of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, the virus-killing filter NWES98 PLUS has been installed in the air handling units of the Cascade Foundation. Thanks to the ISO ePM1-90% filter class, the NWES98 PLUS easily meets the recommendation of at least ISO ePM1-80% in case of recirculation as indicated by REHVA. In addition, the filter medium is provided with a virucidal coating (citric acid) which deactivates as many viruses as possible present in the filter. "In this way, we ensure together that Cascade can once again have the function as it was intended: hospitable with a warm atmosphere; a meeting place and dynamic event location for everyone."
